Richard A. Perez joined TURN in March 2008 as Director of Finance & Operations, a newly created position. Mr. Perez was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in October 2012. His work includes the Organization’s Finance/Accounting, Donor Relations, Technology and Facilities.
Mr. Perez is responsible for the day-to-day finances, managing the facilities, and providing financial reports for TURN’s Board of Directors and external users. He also assists the Human Resources Director with duties, including onboarding new staff members, payroll, renewal of health benefits, and tracking employee sick and vacation time. He supervises two administrative staff members: the Legal Assistant and the Operations Coordinator, and manages several consultants.
Mr. Perez was part of the team charged with obtaining bond financing for TURN’s purchase of the organization’s new Oakland headquarters. Mr. Perez ensures that the building remains up-to-date, and he and his staff manage the various vendors required to keep both the interior and exterior of the building clean and running smoothly.
Mr. Perez is originally from New York, where he worked for the LGBT Community Service Center as a Contract Manager. After moving to the SF Bay Area, Mr. Perez worked for Field Research as Assistant Controller/Payroll Manager before moving on to the role of Manager of Finance & Operations for Larkin Street Youth Center, a San Francisco agency that serves homeless youth. In late 2000, Mr. Perez moved to Entango Corporation, an internet start-up company, as the Manager of Finance & Operations before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2005.
Mr. Perez obtained his BS in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. During his spare time, he serves as a Treasurer for Youth Leadership Institute, Treasurer for International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO), and as Treasurer for LGBT Wednesday Night Community League, a bowling league in the Bay Area.
